September 29th, 2021 -- His Majesty Yuhi VI of Rwanda recently attended alongside other Royals a Jubilee Festival commemorating and celebrating multiple significant anniversaries in Portugal. His Holiness Pope Francis granted a Jubilee Year in honour of the Royal Order of Saint Michael of the Wing from 8th May 2021 to 29th September 2022. The commemoration celebrated the 850th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Royal Order of Saint Michael of the Wing by D. Alfonso Henriques on 8th May 1171; the 750th Anniversary of the Birth of Queen Santa Isabel on January 4th 1271; the 375th Anniversary of the Coronation of Our Lady of of Conception of Vila Viçosa, Queen and Patron of Portugal, on 25th March 1646; the 75th Anniversary of the Coronation of Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of the World, on 13th May 1946; the 50th Anniversary of the Medieval Banquet Programme at Ourém Castle in Portugal on 15th August 1971; the 20th Anniversary of the Canonical Erection of the Royal Brotherhood of the Order of Saint Michael of the Wing on 8th May 2001; and the 20th Anniversary of the Institution of the Federation of Royal Brotherhoods of Saint Michael of the Wing on 29th September 2001. HM Yuhi VI of Rwanda was delighted to be able to support these celebrations.
His Majesty was awarded the Grand Collar of the Royal Order of Saint Michael of the Wing by His Royal Highness Dom Duarte, Duke of Braganza, Head of the Royal House of Portugal, in recognition of the friendship between the Royal Houses of Rwanda and Portugal, which was nurtured by the Duke of Braganza and the late King Kigeli V of Rwanda.
